Jojoba Oil
Grapeseed Oil
Jojoba (pronounced "ho-ho-ba") is an evergreen shrub found in the southwestern United States, Israel and
Argentina. Plants in the wild usually range in height from three to 15 feet and are believed to have a longevity of
150 to 200 years.
The jojoba oil is extracted from the seed of the plant. Female jojoba plants produce a seed that contains 40-60%
liquid wax. Jojoba oil is composed of liquid wax esters which make up 26-30% of our skin's surface layer called
sebum. As we age our rate of wax ester production steadily decreases, particularly in women.
In skin care Jojoba oil seems to be readily absorbed. It will not block pores. It seems to help moisture loss. When
used as a moisturizer it tends to soothe wrinkles and lines due to dry skin. Your skin may appear more supple and
feel smoother and softer.
Jojoba oil is a wonderful eye make-up remover. The skin around the eye is so delicate. Jojoba oil is gentle to the
skin and conditions the skin as it removes the make-up.
Jojoba is an excellent skin oil and carrier for the essential oils.

In all products grape seed oil is a preferred cosmetic ingredient for damaged and stressed tissues, possessing
regenerative and restructuring qualities which allow a better control of skin moisturization. It can help skin retain the
normal structure of epithelium cells and nerve cells via supporting the cell membranes.[citation needed] It is noted to
be especially effective for repair of the skin around the eyes. Used as an all-over skin moisturizer, grape seed oil is
known to reduce the look of stretch marks. A light, thin oil, grape seed oil leaves a glossy film over the skin when
used as a carrier oil for essential oils in aromatherapy. It contains more linoleic acid than many other carrier oils.
Grape seed oil is also usable as a lubricant for face shaving.
Olive Oil
Olive Oil is a fruit oil obtained from the olive (Olea europaea), a traditional tree crop of the Mediterranean Basin. It
is used in cooking, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and soaps, and as a fuel for traditional oil lamps. Olive oil is a
healthful oil because of its high content of monounsaturated fat (mainly oleic acid) and polyphenols.
Olive Oil, Olea europea, the queen of oil for soapmaking, has been treasured for centuries for its ability to nourish
the skin. It is an extremely mild oil packed with vitamins, minerals and proteins. Olive oil prevents the loss of skin's
natural moisture. It attracts external moisture, holds the moisture close to the skin, and forms a breathable film to
prevent loss of internal moisture. Since the fat composition of olive oil is very similar to that of human skin, it rarely
causes allergic reactions and does not block the natural functions of the skin. In addition, it’s absorbed quickly and
helps lock in moisture and soothe sensitive skin. Olive oil is believed to have healing properties, as well as being an
excellent moisturizer. It helps keeps skin soft, supple and younger looking. True old world style Castile soap is
made exclusively with olive oil and produces an extremely mild low lathering soap with fine silky bubbles. In hair
care, Olive oil has been used for centuries in hot oil treatments. Olive oil helps repair split ends, heals dandruff, and
makes your hair shiny, silky, and lustrous.
Shea Nut Butter, Oryza sativa, also known as African Karite Butter, is obtained from the nut of the Mangifolia
Tree. Shea butter has a wide range of amazing properties stemming from its physical make up of vitamins A, E,
and cinnamic acid, just to name a few. Shea Butter, containing a natural UV protection, was used for centuries by
the natives of the Ivory Coast and Senegal to heal and protect skin due to its anti-inflammatory capabilities. It has
been shown to increase the healing of wounds and improve scars. It is used to heal eczema, burns, rashes,
severely dry skin, and to lessen the irritation of psoriasis. Shea Butter penetrates deep into your skin, gives back
its elasticity and helps dry aging skin. It moisturizes and nourishes your skin and is excellent for dry, damaged and
maturing skin. Shea butter contains unsaponifiable fats, which do not turn to soap and thus supply wonderful
moisturizing properties in a bar of soap. In hair care Shea Butter provides deep nourishment for the hair shaft, and
moisturizes dry, dull hair resulting in improved brilliance and manageability. It is also believed to help promote new
hair growth.
Shea Butter
Coconut Oil, Cocos nucifera, one of the main soapmaking oils, comes from the fruit of the Coconut Palm. This
oil gives soap cleansing properties and makes a rich creamy lather with big, fluffy bubbles. It is a great moisturizer
which is quickly absorbed by the skin and never leaves a greasy feeling. This is one of the best oils known for its
lathering and moisturizing properties. It even produces an incredibly rich, creamy, fluffy lather in cold seawater!!
Coconut oil is also great in lotion bars, creams, and hair care products. It is used in India as a hair tonic to
stimulate hair growth, stimulate the scalp, and prevent graying of hair.
Palm Oil, Elaeis guineensis, is produced from the pulp or fleshly portion of the fruit of the palm. It makes a nice
hard bar of soap that cleans well when used in combination with other oils such as coconut and olive oil. It lends
hardness and smooth creamy bubbles to soap. Palm oil is universal and used in many expensive luxury soaps.
Palm Kernel Oil, Elaeis guineensis, is pressed from the kernels or seed of the palm tree fruit. It is very similar to
coconut oil in that it has a high percentage of lauric acid which allows it to produce a hard soap with good lather. It
is a great moisturizer which is quickly absorbed by the skin and never leaves a greasy feeling. This is one of the
best oils known for its lathering and moisturizing properties.
Evening Primrose Oil, Oenothera biennis, expeller pressed from the seeds of the Evening Primrose Flower, is
rich in vitamins and minerals and is a rich source of essential polyunsaturated fatty acids, including gamma-linolenic
acid (GLA), which promote healthy skin by conditioning and restoring moisture to dry or rough areas.
Gamma-Linolenic acid is a choice ingredient in cosmetic products due to the fact it maintains the skin elasticity. It is
particularly recommended for dry and devitalized skin. Evening Primrose has been used in folk medicine for its skin
soothing properties to help with skin conditions like eczema. An excellent oil for dry, aging or chapped skin, evening
primrose is often used as a body message oil. Evening primrose oil soap gives a thick creamy lather which cleans
and moisturizes dry skin.

Aloe vera, Aloe barbadensis, a member of the lily family, is closer in resemblance to a cactus. For thousands of
years, aloe vera has been recognized as one of nature’s most remarkable herbs for health and beauty. The plant’s
leaves are filled with a gel that contains more than 75 known substances, which include vitamins, minerals, enzymes,
proteins, polysaccharides and biological stimulators. Aloe was used in beauty rituals by the ancient Egyptians due to
its beneficial effects on skin. Doctors in ancient China called aloe the "the harmonic remedy" because of its healing
properties. For many years aloe, with a pH similar to our own skin, has been prized for its anti-inflammatory
properties, its ability to relieve itching, and its skin-moisturizing effects. Aloe is soothing, emollient, antibacterial,
promotes new skin growth, moisturizes, protects, and counters the effects of aging. It is rich in natural moisture and
has a humectant quality that draws additional moisture to the skin. The finest most concentrated extract of aloe vera
is obtained from the innermost flesh of the aloe vera leaf. Aloe vera juice, extract and oil are believed to encourage
skin rejuvenation and promote healing of wounds and treatment of sunburn. For most of our soaps we like to use
use fresh organic aloe leaves that we grow in our greenhouse. We whir them in the blender and add them at the
end of the soapmaking process in order to keep as much of the beneficial properties as possible. Aloe vera adds a
wonderful, silky texture to soap leaving skin soft and smooth. In hair care, aloe makes hair more manageable,
smoother, silkier, and healthier. Aloe conditions, moisturizes and creates a smooth shine. There are some that
believe that aloe may help promote hair growth, make the hair thicker, and strengthen the hair so it is more resistant
to breakage. Mexican woman have applied aloe vera for centuries to add luster and manageability to their hair.
Chamomile, Matricaria recutita, flowers add a slightly astringent quality to soaps. Infusions of Chamomile have
been used to soothe skin rashes, minor burns and sunburn. Used as a lotion or added in oil form to a cool bath,
chamomile eases the itching of eczema and other rashes and reduces skin inflammation. Chamomile's mild
astringency makes it very good for deep-cleaning pores. Chamomile tea makes a fantastic hair rinse for blonds. This
herb is commonly sold as a soothing and relaxing tea. It is believed to ease depression, stress, insomnia and
migraines. Facilitates meditation. In hair care chamomile is used to soothe the scalp, condition, and stimulate healthy
hair growth. Chamomile is one of the most beneficial herbs for hair. It adds highlights to fair hair and a sheen to dark
hair and it conditions and softens.
Goat Milk has been used since ancient times as a natural cleanser. Goat Milk is one of natures finest moisturizers,
has excellent emollient (softening and soothing to the skin) properties, and adds creaminess to handcrafted soap.
The main reason soapmakers use goat’s milk is because it has a very high butterfat content. The butterfat is good for
your skin--it softens and moisturizes. Goat milk contains caprylic acid, which reduces alkalinity, giving soap a pH
(acid/base balance) much closer to skin's own natural pH . The lower pH reduces the surface tension of skin, allowing
it to absorb the moisturizing effects of a goat milk and glycerin. People who can not use regular soap find that our
goat milk soaps are very mild and non-irritating to their skin. Goat milk is full of vitamins. It contains vitamin A, and
several B vitamins including riboflavin, niacin, B6, B12. Alpha-hydroxy acids found naturally in Goat milk are believed
to have rejuvenating effects on skin's cells, neutralizing free radicals, and slowing the aging process. In hair care, goat
milk replenishes the moisture in every strand by penetrating the hair shaft. It nourishes the scalp, adding life, luster,
and body to hair.

year-old-tradition in essential rose oil steam distillation (not solvent extracted) and is 100% pure. Rose otto has the
highest frequency (320 Hertz) of all the essential oils on the planet. This in itself is an important factor. It means that
the fragrant molecules of the rose oil are able to quickly penetrate and travel the infinitesimal pathways of the body,
rapidly energising every cell, bringing balance and harmony to the body. For this reason rose oil may help with
chronic sexual disabilities like frigidity, impotence and sluggish libido. It is stimulating and elevating to the mind,
creating a sense of well being .
Rose essential oil has been dedicated to Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of sexual love and beauty, and her Roman
equivalent, Venus. Because the scent of rose is so sensual, the Romans scattered rose petals on the bridal beds
for the wedding night... a tradition now embodied in throwing confetti.

Dead Sea Salts
Sodium Chloride
Under a motionless, dazzling blue sky with the mountains of Jordan in view, the heat beats down every day of the year
onto an amazing body of water that is known as the Dead Sea. The 'Sea of Salt,' as it is often referred to, lies at the
bottom of a tectonic trench that was formed during a geographic cataclysm more than two million years ago. This
trench is more than 400 meters below the Mediterranean, making it the lowest point on Earth.
The Dead Sea is actually a lake bordered on the north by the Jordan River but having no outlet on the south.
Absolutely nothing lives in this water; no fish, algae or mollusks. Dramatic saline formations resembling rocks or artistic
sculptures rise above the surface.
The Dead Sea has a greater solid content than any other body of water, 30% compared to about 6% solids in ocean
water. The water density is comprised of potassium chloride, magnesium chloride, sodium chloride, calcium chloride
and bromides. Whereas ocean salt contains more than 97% sodium chloride but only trace amounts of magnesium
and potassium, the salt from the Dead Sea is unique for its high proportion of potassium and magnesium ions and its
relatively low sodium ion content.
The atmospheric pressure at the Dead Sea is the highest on the planet, making it very dry. There is 15% more oxygen
in the atmosphere here than in the Mediterranean. The combination of the atmosphere and the mineral rich water
make the Dead Sea an unusually therapeutic natural wonder.
At the turn of the century, scientists and physicians sought proof of the reported healing effects of the water on both
skin and respiratory ailments. In the 1950's, physician studies concluded that authentic salts extracted from the Dead
Sea have a proven therapeutic effect on skin ailments such as psoriasis and eczema. Regular bathing in these salts
was shown to provide great relief from such psoriasis symptoms as itching, burning, flakiness and muscle and joint
aches.
Beyond these therapeutic effects for the skin, the University of Jerusalem has provided evidence that Dead Sea
Mineral Salts also stimulate circulation and encourage the skin to renew itself. In addition, subcutaneous penetration
helps relieve aches and pains in joints and muscles, providing much relief for those whom experience rheumatism and
arthritis. A sense of deep relaxation is derived from frequent baths in Dead Sea Mineral Salts.
Today, the ancient Dead Sea remains a precious and mysterious jewel of healing and relaxation for those who visit
and for those who experience its vast therapeutic powers in the comfort of their own home.
Sodium

Epsom Salts
Magnesium Sulfate
Magnesium is the second-most abundant element in human cells and the fourth-most important positively charged ion in the
body, so it's little wonder this low-profile mineral is so vital to good health and well being. Magnesium, a major component of
Epsom Salt, also helps to regulate the activity of more than 325 enzymes and performs a vital role in orchestrating many
bodily functions, from muscle control and electrical impulses to energy production and the elimination of harmful toxins.
The National Academy of Sciences, however, reports that most Americans are magnesium deficient, helping to account for
our society's high rate of heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis, arthritis and joint pain, digestive maladies and stress-related
illnesses, chronic fatigue and a host of other ailments. The Academy estimates the average American male gets just 80% of
the magnesium required for good health, while females get only 70% of their recommended levels. Nutritionists say
Americans' magnesium levels have dropped more than 50% in the past century.
Soaking in Epsom salt is one of the most effective means of making the magnesium your body needs readily available.
Researchers and physicians report that raising your magnesium levels may:
- Improve heart and circulatory health, reducing irregular heartbeats, preventing hardening of the arteries,
reducing blood clots and lowering blood pressure.
- Improve the body's ability to use insulin, reducing the incidence or severity of diabetes.
- Flush toxins and heavy metals from the cells, easing muscle pain and helping the body to eliminate harmful
substances.
- Improve nerve function by regulating electrolytes. Also, calcium is the main conductor for electrical current in
the body, and magnesium is necessary to maintain proper calcium levels in the blood.
- Relieve stress. Excess adrenaline and stress are believed to drain magnesium, a natural stress reliever, from
the body. Magnesium is necessary for the body to bind adequate amounts of serotonin, a mood-elevating chemical
within the brain that creates a feeling of well being and relaxation.

Solar Salt
Sodium Chloride
As it leaves the skies in the form of rain, water is soft, meaning it is clear of impurities. But is picks up carbon dioxide and
other impurities in the air. It also dissolves calcium and magnesium salts as it soaks through the earth and runs off into rivers
or lakes and collects in reservoirs or wells. If in these processes it picks up a substantial amount of calcium carbonate and
other substances, it becomes "hard." This water leaves mineral deposits which clog plumbing equipment and appliances
making it unsatisfactory for household or industrial uses. Most notably in the home, hard water inhibits proper sudsing of
soaps, shampoos and detergents.
Softens the water. You will feel how silky smooth the water feels against your skin.
Creates added Buoyancy. The amazing buoyancy force gives an uplifting feeling inside the bathtub. Easier floating aids in
relaxation.
Gives soap more lather. Your soaps will lather up higher with less product and greater ease.
Fights soap scum buildup. By creating an alkaline condition, it is more difficult to leave a soap scum ring around the tub.
Eliminates stress. It is easier to forget your surroundings and relax when the scents and feelings are conductive to relaxation.
